On July 31, 2023 CLASP submitted this letter to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Justice (DOJ) in collaboration with the Children’s Defense Fund, CHILDREN AT RISK, Children’s Healthwatch, First Focus On Children, and The Children’s Partnership. The letter calls on DHS and DOJ to undertake joint rulemaking to update the cancellation of removal process so that it can be more accessible to parents of U.S. citizen children and fully consider the best interests of the child by weighing the developmental harms caused by parental separation.
