National Black Child Development Institute’s 51st Annual Conference
On October 9, Tiffany Ferrette, Alycia Hardy, and Alyssa Fortner gave a presentation at the National Black Child Development Institute’s 51st Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. on the intersection of harsh and exclusionary discipline and data policies in child care and early education programs. The workshop highlighted historical context on policies and practices that have harmed Black children and families through pushout, suspension, and other exclusionary practices, as well as how data are currently used to track, improve, and inform policies. Participants left with recommendations on how to improve Black families’ realities and experiences in child care and early education programs at the federal, state, and local levels.
