Police surveillance tools such as gunshot detection, social media surveillance, facial recognition technology, predictive policing software, and “smart” camera networks have proliferated in communities of color, and have drawn criticism for racial discrimination, privacy abuses, and systemic civil and human rights violations. In this plenary session, a panel of national legal experts discuss community-based strategies to resist the digital transformation of mass criminalization in the United States while offering legal and policy solutions to abolish their use altogether.
