In
January 2005 a coalition of more than 250 organizations forwarded a memo
to the President with a set of policy solutions to improve outcomes for
disconnected youth. The goal is to:
Coordinated by the Campaign for Youth, these organizations represent youth practitioners, policy makers, educators, advocates, community and faith-based institutions, and others who are concerned about the future for the millions of young people who have fallen outside of the education and labor market mainstream with little opportunity to reconnect.
Contained on this website is the memo, fact sheets, briefing sheets, important links for each recommendation, and advocacy tools. We encourage all to use this information and tools to heighten awareness of our disconnected youth problem and to advance the recommendations.
The
committee coordinating the activities is co-chaired by Linda Harris,
Center for Law and Social Policy and Sally Prouty, National Association of
Service and Conservation Corps. Members of the committee include: Connect
for Kids, Forum for Youth Investment, Alliance for Excellent Education,
National Collaboration for Youth, National Network for Youth, Fight Crime
Invest in Kids, National Youth Employment Coalition, National Foster Care
Coalition, Youthbuild USA, and the Youth Law Center.
